Daily Deviation

Given 2011-02-25
One of the most oft suggested pieces I get in my InBox!!! As the suggester says, =Naviretlav makes the impossible seem possible here, and I love how you can actually see the fractal nature of the piece instead of only getting an interesting crop. Infinite hallways, descending shapes getting smaller and smaller, twisted forms, mysterious lights and impossible angles make this piece an absolute dream to stare into for hours!! Or, depending on your psyche....perhaps it is a nightmare... ( Suggested by `suzaku009 and Featured by `DragonWinter )

This piece is one of my personal favorites. Since the view looks down a tunnel, you can see the iterative nature of the fractal in the sides of the tunnel. Speaking of which, the sides are well done, and the color choices are also excellent. I especially enjoy the light at the end of the tunnel and how inviting it appears, drawing the eye to it so that the viewer can realize the depth of the image.

The fisheye lens effect is an interesting choice. It adds a certain flair to the image that I cannot quite place. The lens effect allows us to see down several other corridors and opens up the image even more.

What I find most significant about this piece is its ability to capture the nature of the fractal. In other pieces by Naviretlav, the fractal is there, but the focus is on a small, intriguing glimpse of the fractal, and the nature of the fractal is lost. However, in this piece, you can see the iterations; you can see the vast empty spaces; you can see the openness of the fractal, the strange solid, yet not solid, nature of a fractal. It's a beautiful picture.
